Biography

Juris Krumins is Professor at the University of Latvia, delivering courses and supervising master theses in the European Studies and the Baltic Sea Region Studies graduate programs. He is Director of the Demography doctoral study program and Chairman of the Council at the Faculty of Business, Management and Economics. From 1993 to 2011 Juris Krumins has been the vice rector of the University of Latvia. During academic career he has been a visiting scholar and visiting professor in Sarajevo University (former Yugoslavia), Moscow University (Russia), University of Michigan (USA), INED (France), Catholic University Louvain la Neuve (Belgium), Stockholm University and Uppsala University (Sweden). As a member of the European Association of Population studies and the International Union for Scientific Studies of Population, since 2013 he became a member of the Council of Advisors at the Population Europe – The network of Europe’s Leading Demographic Research Centres. Since 2016 he is a member of the Latvian Nation Council of Statistics. In 2015 he received award “Professor of the Year” from the Latvian University Professors’ Association. Juris Krumins is a full member of the Latvian Academy of Sciences. In 2004 he was awarded with the Karlis Balodis, but in 2014 with the Margers Skujenieks Award by the Latvian Academy of Sciences.
